E' la nascita di "The Dark side of the moon" uno dei capolavori più suggestivi ed impegnativi della lunga carriera dei Pink Floyd.
Roger Waters prende con sè la situazione PF, scrive i testi, parla di sè e prende il comando.

Debutto degli Stars:
La nuova band di Syd Barrett fece la sua prima apparizione a chiusura della serata dopo Skin Alley e gli MC5.
Syd anxora preda dei suoi problemi mentali si allontanava continuamente dal microfono, ed era tutto incomprensibile.
Iniziò con una versione lenta di 'Octopus', molte persone se ne andarono.
Erano rimaste poco più di venti-trenta persone.
Syd andò avanti suonando 'Dark Globe', 'Gigolò Aunt', 'Baby Lemonade', 'Waving My Arms In The Air', 'Lucifer Sam' e un paio di blues.
Ad un certo punto si fermò per grattarsi il naso, e i suoi assolo consistettero soprattutto di scivolate su e giù lungo la tastiera della sua Stratocaster.

Lo spettacolo si concluse quando l'indice della mano destra di Syd cominciò a sanguinare piuttosto seriamente.

La band era formata da Syd Barrett, chitarra solista e voce, Twink, batteria e Jack Monk al basso.
Gli Stars suonarono una seconda volta qualche giorno dopo, pare con i risultati che possiamo immaginare.

Una breve intervista:
Alan: 'È vero che gli Stars sono l'unico gruppo in cui Syd ha suonato da quando ha lasciato i Pink Floyd?'
Twink: 'Si.'
Alan: 'Stava bene Syd a quei tempi?'
Twink: 'Si, molto bene.'
Alan: 'Chi aveva messo insieme il gruppo?'
Twink: 'lo!'
Alan: 'Quanto tempo fa era?'
Twink: 'Più o meno il maggio del 1972.'
Alan: 'Dove avete suonato?'
Twink: 'Suonammo nella Market Square, all'aperto, al Dandelion Coffee Bar e al Corn Exchange con gli MC5. Tutto a Cambridge.'
Alan: 'Le recensioni non furono molto buone.'
Twink: 'Il motivo è che avevamo un'amplificazione pessima, con un missaggio altrettanto pessimo. Syd non sentiva la sua voce. Le chitarre si perdevano completamente. Syd sentiva solo la batteria. Ma riuscimmo ad arrivare al "Lucifer Sam".'
Alan: 'Quali altre canzoni erano in scaletta?'
Twink. '"Waving My Arms In The Air" e altre tre canzoni prese dagli album di Syd da solo.'
Alan: 'Registraste qualcosa?'
Twink: 'Si, registrammo tutte le prove e gli spettacoli.'
Alan: 'Hai accesso a questi nastri?'
Twink: 'Si.'
Alan: 'Sei stato contattato per pubblicarli?'
Twink: 'Si, ma non ho ancora deciso cosa farci.'
Alan: 'Com'è la qualità delle registrazioni! È buona?'
Twink: 'E veramente buona.'
Alan: 'Come suonava allora il gruppo?'
Twink: 'Il gruppo era davvero in gamba! '
Alan: 'Cosa fa ora Syd?'
Twink: 'Non lo so, ma conoscendo Syd, qualunque cosa stia facendo sarà grande!'

David Gilmour: "Abbiamo avuto dei diverbi su cosa fare su questi album di colonne sonore, ed anche su altri.
Alcuni di noi pensavano che non ci dovessimo mettere altro che canzoni, altri pensavano che avremmo dovuto trasformare il tutto in un concetto fondamentale da sviluppare in tutto l'album.
E cosi facemmo alla fine. Roger ha un pò la convinzione e fissazione di fare tutto l'album con un solo soggetto, per quello che si potrebbe chiamare concept album."

'Pink Floyd Live At Pompeii' doveva essere proiettato in anteprima speciale al Rainbow Theatre, ma all'ultimo minuto -troppo tardi per informare i 3.000 possessori di biglietti e troppo tardi per trovare un altro locale - la Rank Organisation, proprietaria del Rainbow, si appellò ad una clausola del contratto d'affitto che proibiva la promozione di qualsiasi manifestazione ritenuta 'concorrenziale' rispetto all'organizzazione. Peter Bowyer, che avrebbe dovuto presentare la proiezione, disse: " Non mi risulta che la Rank Organisation abbia mai mostrato alcun interesse per il film prima d'ora, né che abbia dato la minima indicazione del fatto di essere a conoscenza della sua esistenza. Considero questa azione totalmente ingiustificabile." Quando chiesero ai Pink Floyd come consideravano la cosa, la risposta di Roger Waters fù: " Vergognosa.* Ecco com'è stata. Mi sembra una battuta spiritosa." . Nick Mason: "Mi piace il commento di Peter Boyer. Dice che dovrà aspettare che gli si rimargino le ferite sulla schiena prima di prendere un altro impegno del genere."
